End of year trades

Going into the end of the year, there are a lot of trades that are yet to be made. As it stands some of the hottest sectors in the economy are Healthcare, Energy, Financials, and Technology. While I am aware of some potentially uber profitable trades in all these sectors,  The ones I mainly focus own are Technology and Energy.

With oil grinding away at resistance and working on the 85 dollar level, Solar panels reaching an all time low in price, and companies like CSCO partnering with GE. It is not far fetched that there are certain money making synergies in the pipeline.

Today, in the mist of all the business news there where two key reports that caught my attention.

  1. Obama Promotes ‘Smart-Grid’ Projects
  2. Big Cellphone Makers Shifting to Android System
These articles come from the New York Times, highlighting the need for a new, sustainable renewable energy.
Taking the energy straight from our biggest source, Solar panel farms will provide energy for entire states. Today President Obama announced that the government will invest $3.4 billion to modernize our out dated electric grid. This will be no easy task. A task of this scale will provide need jobs for a jobless economy that is tittering at a jobless rate of 10%. This role out of a new "smart grid" will utilize cutting edge technology that will be able to facilitate the collaboration of the power plants and the end user in such a fashion that will bring about efficiencies in the transmission of electric power. With companies like General Electric (GE) and Cisco Systems (CSCO) teaming up to produce these efficiencies there may be a reason to view the charts of there price action as a diamond in the rough.

The buck doesn't stop there either. Google (goog) and hardware producers like Motorola (Mot) have entered a market that has a relativity unlimited growth potential being that there is a high demand with a low supply for there products. They have teamed up to produce "Smartphones" that will allow for a new culture to develop in which the worlds information will be readily available at ones finger tips.  This mobile computing culture will allow for user to go beyond the tradition communications barriers, into one in which they are constantly connected to not only one another but to any data center that is desired. It is my belief that in 10 years life as we know it will be drastically different and if one was to jump own the band wagon today there is a lot of profits to be realized through the right investments. Through out the rest of this year I will attempt to provide my perception on what is awaiting us in the months to come and some trades that will capture the growing momentum.
